For England, James.
It has been the legal fight of the century - so to speak-, but Goldeneye, the classic first-person shooter, released in 1997 by Rare Studio, the maker of Killer Instinct on Nintendo 64 is coming to the Xbox Game Pass and The Nintendo Switch on January 27, 2023.
I really wanted to share my excitement as Goldeneye was the game I sought back in the late 90s, but unluckily I owned a PlayStation back then - and I was really looking forward to getting the Nintendo 64 as the title was exclusive to the console. The title was seen as the most influential game of the year as it demonstrated the viability of the genre on a home console instead of a PC. In fact, Goldeneye became the DeFacto first-person shooter of the Late 90s as the title paved the way to other FPS that came after it in early 2000, like Halo and the Call of Duty series.
The Xbox version of Goldeneye 007 will feature the same single-player campaign based on the James Bond movie and the split-screen multiplayer mode that supports up to 4 players. “It also offers a few key additions for a modern audience, including alternative control options, achievements to unlock, and native 16:9 resolution up to 4K Ultra HD
For those who were living under the rock, Goldeneye 007 was released in 1997 only on Nintendo 64 and was created by inexperienced people who had no prior knowledge of gaming and programming. It went on to become the fastest-selling FPS of all time. Its spiritual successor The Perfect Dark was released in 2000.
2023 seems a promising year. Can't wait to grab a copy of Goldeneye.
